As a community minded club, the club supports initiatives in our community and cruising grounds. You can read up on the organisations the club directly supports as a sponsor.
We also include other information on items of interest for our members.
Coastguard - The club supports the Coastguard through provision of space for their base and mooring the coastguard vessels.
DOC Rat Trapping on Pickersgill Island - the club supports this initiative by sponsoring fuel costs for a vessel making the trip to upgrade traps and maintain pathways.
Guardians of the Pauatahunui Inlet - The club provides a donation towards prizes in their annual photographic competition.
Wakahourua visits - the club supports visiting Waka with berthage on the breastworks and access to club room facilities.
The club distributes weekly notices via email as well as various other important information. This might include Notices of Meetings as required by the club rules.
As the name implies, the Mana Cruising Club is actively involved in all aspects of cruising, coastal and offshore. Members have sailed to all parts of the globe and are willing to pass on their extensive cruising knowledge.
The Cook Strait is one of the most challenging stretches of water in New Zealand and always needs a high level of respect. The weather is a major contributor to the challenge and we encourage the use of “Marine forecasts”. There is a local Mana forecast on the metservice website.
The club offers to match up novice boaties with more experienced boaties to cross the Strait and navigate within the sounds on an informal basis as well as for orgainsed events such as the club trip to Queen Charlotte Sound
All fisho’s need to be aware of the “marine reserves” and respect the recreational fishing rules. Fisheries NZ has the latest Rules and Regulations.
Note that there is a difference of minimum sizes and bag limits between “Central Fishery Management Area” (our immediate surrounds) and “Challenger Fishery Management Area” (the opposite side of the Cook Strait).
If in doubt check your pamphlet or telephone 0800 4 RULES (0800 478 537).
For reporting illegal fishing telephone 0800 4 POACHER (0800 476 224).
Alternatively you can telephone the Compliance Office directly on 04 576 8040.
Link to the Mana Tidal Gauge which is updated every 30 minutes. The most recent observation in millimetres above the Chart Datum is annotated in the chart - add 1 hour to annotated time during daylight saving. There is approximately 1 metre of water below the Chart Datum at the marina entrance.
