Important Update: Changes to Membership Renewals for the new financial year
We have now had the new hardware and software installed to the membership system. The new system will rely on your membership cards to be scanned at the bar to identify if a person is a financial member or not.
There have been a few questions around why we need to do this. All we can reinforce is that we must comply with the law, and a failure to do so could result in the loss of our liquor license.
The law requires that:
1. Bar staff must sight a current membership card or an affiliate’s current membership card. All guests (non-members) should either complete a sign-in slip and be accompanied by their sponsoring member, or bar staff should ask questions to satisfy themselves that non-members are authorized customers.
2. Unauthorized sale or supply under S. 247 could result in a fine of $20,000 and the license may also be suspended for up to seven days
3. We have received reminders from PCC re our responsibilities under the club license and they are clearly taking an interest in our compliance.
We have reviewed the situation with the cards not having expiry dates and the situation for our members visiting clubs that we have reciprocal membership rights with. The idea around the non expiry date on the plastic cards was to avoid the need to reproduce a card each year thereby saving staff time and the cost of generating 900 approx cards each year as well as reducing our environmental impact through less plastic waste. We are looking to implement an electronic card that will be available to download from our website that will mirror the plastic card with the addition of an expiry date. These two together will verify your current membership.
We have transferred membership records into Swiftpos, and created separate records for husband, wife. partner/children. While all due care and attention has been taken in this process, we recognize we may have got things wrong. If you think we have, or have any concerns, please let the office know so we can rectify the situation.
Denise and the bar staff have received training on the new system, however in any new system there is always the potential for the unknown to throw up issues. Please accept that the staff are doing their best and are helping make this transition process as smooth as possible, Any issues should be addressed with the committee, who will be supporting the staff through this process.
Ultimately we will have a membership process that meets our legal requirements and will make your club experience smoother and more secure. We understand change can be confusing, so if you have any questions, please ask.
Thank you
The Committee
