Friday 13th February

From the Commodore

It appears that we have a summer at last, so I hope you are all getting out on the water in your boats, launches, yachts, canoes or whatever and making the most of it.

Local fishing has gone ballistic with Marlin, Tuna, and even a Mahi Mahi, being landed off the Kapiti/west  coast, proving the warm waters are here at the moment, so I know all you keen anglers will be out there chasing these great  fish.

It is with sadness I advise of the passing of former Commodore, Graham Browne. Graham was Commodore from 1986-1988. Our condolences to his family and friends.

As advised last week, we  seeking an additional member for the General Committee role. If this is you, then feel free to have a chat or contact me at……… commodore@manacc.co.nz.

Facebook

Our Facebook page is back up and running again, so please keep a watch on this for updates, photos, and other upcoming events as well.

Yard Maintenance

We will be looking for volunteers to assist on a Saturday morning and will advise the date shortly. Part of this will be some major improvements in the eastern yard, courtesy of Higgins Concrete.

Trailer Boaties

If any of you trailer boaties are interested in seeing what Sailing or Launch cruising is about, then some club members have volunteered to take you out on a sail/cruise, to see if that could be your next adventure, so email commodore@manacc.co.nz, and let me know what you want to try.

Mooring Etiquette

Summer in the sounds is always busy, so please remember to always display your Club Burgee when occupying a club mooring, otherwise you may be asked to move on. Please also remember that the largest/heaviest boat normally takes the mooring  first, with smaller boats needing to raft up. If you don't want to raft up and enjoy the social interaction with fellow members, then just move on and anchor in your own quiet space.

Boat Ramp Etiquette

Please remember to untie the boat strops, trailer flag, and load up your boat prior to entering the yard. It is a working yard, and space is limited, so a large cue of vehicles and trailers loading and unloading in the yard, will only slow everyone down and frustrations will grow.

Mooring Updates

The Motuara Island Mooring in Queen Charlotte Sound, has a damaged splice, so may not be secure. There are also similar concerns with Waitara Bay, # 130 in Keneperu Sound. Maintenance work has been booked for both of these, however please make your own assessment prior to using either mooring.

Always happy to discuss any items personally with anyone at their leisure.

More details and our  entry forms are now available online.

Annual Photo Fishing Competition

This has started again so remember to take those measured photos before you start the filleting process, and get them into fishing@manacc.co.nz

There has been some great fish entered already, with a lot of Snapper and Terakihi coming on board various boats, so keep it coming and remember for those divers, we will accept your entries.

Our first meeting for the year will be on the Wednesday 19th February, 7pm with our talkers to be Trevor Burgess and Geoff Barnes, covering the safe crossing of Cook Strait after popular requests from last year.

From 4-6pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. This is for Beer, Wine and RTD's.

The members bar this Saturday, 15th February, will be upstairs in the function room due to a private function downstairs.

This has recently been added to our web page so if you want to get rid of those old bits cluttering the garage, then let us know so we can add them to the page.

Digitized Photos on Display

During some recent tidying up, we have found and digitized a large number of photos and these will be displayed on the TV in the wardroom on club nights.

FYI, we started with 450 photos, and are now approaching 2000+ photos due to member participation. Well done all.

Since these photos were in the albums, we have assumed that the photographers and the photo subjects are happy for the club to use them for its benefit. If you are the photographer or a photos subject and do not want your photo to be part of this display, please email commodore@manacc.co.nz with the details of the photo to be removed.

Enjoy the memories!
